Architecture for an unmanned ground vehicle

چکیده
This paper describes architecture for an autonomous land vehicle for high-speed driving without human intervention. This is a model proposed for the DARPA Grand Challenge in 2004, which was to make a robotic vehicle that will drive a desert terrain of 132 miles autonomously. In comparison to other challenges in the robotics domain, this challenge was really different because it encompassed making a robust vehicle that could survive in the desert for long hours and travel the pre-designated path without going into obstacles. Research in this area brings out many new ideas and new concepts in the fields of Robotics and AI. There are also direct advantages of research here: There are a hug number of road accidents. Making driving a car autonomous can make travelling much safer, since, an autonomous machine is making all the decisions instead of a human. We can think of a future, when nearby overtaking or crossing vehicles will communicate with each other, coordinate, and then decide to overtake or cross. This will make driving more reliable. Autonomous vehicles can also be used in harsh war-like situation for transporting infantry and arms. The wide range of applications, the difficulty of the problem and the technology’s usefulness makes this an interesting topic.
